Making the Most … ?

Following on from my last post, about The Call… I’ve been looking at the way people live their lives and how we can overlook God’s hand in our lives, His guidance and His provision, by looking for bigger, better, different, spectacular …!

I mentioned in my last post how the Scriptures talk about “making the most of every opportunity” and “whatever your hand finds to do – do it with all your might”, and I see that what we live out so often is different from what we speak about our lives.

So many times I hear and see people bemoaning the fact that they live where they do and not somewhere else, or they are in a job that is not what they would prefer, that their finances or their situation is not “the dream” and they are missing the blessings, the potential of the people they work with, the “opportunity” they are in.

Sometimes we live very blinkered lives, always wishing we were somewhere else, doing something different and with a different set of people and actually the opportunities to make a difference in someone’s life are missed!

Maybe it’s time to take a moment (or two!) and  stop wishing our lives were different and living with all we have in the “now”… making the most of every opportunity, however small or seemingly insignificant they may be and maybe, just maybe, we would find a new release of joy and purpose in the life we have!

A little trite, I know, but the sentiment is the same: “When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”

“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”

“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”
